MESOTHELIOMA





Mesothelioma Symptoms are not easily detected. In most cases they become noticed decades after asbestos exposure. Finally when symptoms surfaces, they come very easy and common and at such, most people will not see the need for serious treatment never knowing what actual danger lies beneath.
On occasions when the symptoms appear early, it looks like common cold, flu and other minor illnesses. It is very necessary for one to carry out regular medical checkup. 
Symptoms of mesothelioma is often not taken seriously because in most cases, the symptoms are mistaken for some other common respiratory illnesses hence patients do not seek medical help. The very worst part of this is that mesothelioma patients a prone to having pneumonia and most will naturally concentrate on treating pneumonia only not knowing the dangerous illness attached.

Some early signs of pleural mesothelioma include; dry cough, pain in the chest, difficulty in attaining full chest expansion and panting. About 65% of mesothelioma patients usually complain of pains at the lower part of the back and in many cases, the pain in the chest spreads all the way to the shoulder region. 

When mesothelioma gets to its advance stage, patients may encounter the following:
  • Collapsing lung
  • Coughing out blood
  • Blood clotting in the veins
  • Blood clotting in the lungs and arteries
  • Jaundice
·         Masses of tumor
  • Great swellings in the arms and face
  • Troubles with swallowing
Peritoneal Mesothelioma Symptoms

Peritoneal mesothelioma attacks the cell layers covering the internal organs of the body which is called the mesothelim. Once these cells in the abdominal region is affected, they multiply abnormally thus becoming cancerous. Most cases of peritoneal mesothelioma is caused by working at a job site that was at one time related with high level usage of asbestos. Furthermore, peritoneal mesothelioma rare and affects approximately 2 people out of a million in the United States every year.
There are series of test carried out on a patient experiencing any of the below stated symptoms before they are diagnosed of the disease for accuracy. Peritoneal mesothelioma test is usually a fluid test collected from the abdominal region of the patient and this test is to detect hostile or malevolent cells.

General symptoms experienced by peritoneal mesothelioma patients are:
  • Pains and Swellings in the abdomen
  • Accumulation of fluid in the abdomen
  • Laziness and lethargy
  • Tissue Lumps clumped together under the skin in the abdominal region.
  • Abnormal loss of weight
  • Short breathing
  • problems breathing
  • Lack of appetite
  • General body weakness
  • Hernias
  • Anemia
  • Sweats at night
Pericardial Mesothelioma Symptoms

Pericardial mesothelioma is a rare and highly dangerous type of mesothelioma because it damages the heart lining. It’s not very clear how this disease finds its way to the heart lining, but research has shown that since the asbestos fibers are so small, it would be easy for them to flow through the blood stream to the heart. Doctors normally recommend chemotherapy and radiation therapy as a way managing the situation but not completely eliminating it. 

Some Symptoms of pericardial mesothelioma are;
  • Gasp/panting
  • Pericardium thickening
  • Laziness and sluggishness
  • Fever
Symptoms of mesothelioma do not surface easily. It takes quite some times before a patient begin to feel signs of the disease. Some doctors claim it takes as long as 25 to 50 years after one is exposed to asbestos before symptoms of the disease start showing up.
